I made a short vid of an incident that happened on a ride yesterday, it has created quite a stir and has been mega shared and watched.... Just wish I'd put it on YouTube!

Fortunately no one was hurt although I did (unintentionally) scare the horses, the riders and myself.

8k views and 83 shares in less than 24hrs.

8k views on Facebook does not mean you won't get some traction on YouTube still.

Post it up anyway. The safety factor alone has value plus with Facebook dropping the resolution, it would be nice to see if higher res makes the reflective vest actually stand out. So far I have not seen them until you are a bike length out.

Aye, and Facebook is a very accessible place for embedded videos over shared video links. Am not going to put it on YouTube as the message is out now in the FB vid.
I recorded in 2.7k and even the video saved on my PC doesn't show the horses until I entered the shaded area.

There has been a lot of hate on the shared vids, and a lot of folk saying they were wrong to judge me but I posted it as an educational video for both biker and horse rider so it's job has been achieved without needing to go on YouTube.

I didn't. I shared it on FB as an educational vid to alert both horse riders and bikers/car drivers just how hard it can be to see horses. Folk don't share YouTube vids in the same way they share FB posts so it would not have had the same reach, on FB it has now been shared nearly 200 times and has 21,000 views which is awesome if it encourages riders to wear better hi-vis and riders to be more aware when riding through trees in bright sun. I also didn't really fancy all the trolls and keyboard warriors griefing me on my YouTube channel lol

Besides shares I don’t understand how the Facebook vids and photos are found, I’ve hashtagged c10 truck and grand national pics and they get a couple thousand views in a day which is way more than Instagram likes. I’m not sure if the Facebook “reach” count is coming from Instagram. I need to do some tests, I’d really like to convert the views to followers/subs

Same.. I would typically just share YT links on the FB page so by default all vids are from YT.

I thought YouTube links from Facebook don't count as views or watch time. It may show initially but after a few days they adjust and poof, gone.

I think views are views, YouTube vids on Facebook still have ads if they are monetized so the view has to count!

Yes all views are counted, under analytics report probably the source of playback will be different, that's all.

So the video in the OP has now had around 21,000 views and has been shared nearly 200 times.

I posted a video on instagram and shared that on Facebook on Friday day, that now has 6,000 views and a few shares too.

I wonder what it is that stops folk clicking on YouTube links and then sharing them when so many are happy to share Facebook links?

Its Simple, Facebook likes and shares can save the world, YouTube ones don't.

Think of all the posts you have seen for click like and share to save a whale or child or something.

But seriously, Facebook is built on a culture of sharing things, YouTube really isn't.

Aye, very true, but with that in mind, people still don't click on YouTube vids that are shared on Facebook anywhere near as much. I guess with Facebook vids generally being autoplay the view count isn't necessarily as accurate as YouTube, but the interaction from them is really good.

I’ve red that Facebook actually displays your external links (or maybe just YouTube-links) a bit less then content within the Facebook-platform. This might be specially related to when posting as a page and not a person.

Now I don’t know how much truth there is to that but after seeing what you’re experiencing it seems plausible.

One “solution” should be to post the actual link in a comment instead of in the actual post it self.
