Close Call Or What!

@2WheelVandal
Casually riding along for a few hours, ended up behind this cruiser for the better half of my journey. Kind of glad he was in front of me actually..

Fair play to the rider anticipating it. What you don't see is the woman who's driving the mini cooper throw her hands in the air as if it wasn't her wrongdoing :eek:o_O

She was on the roundabout at the same time if not before.
You give way to traffic already on it not approaching faster than you.

I disagree, She saw the biker and failed to judge the speed he was going and thought she could beat him. Anyway, you ALWAYS give way to the right. It doesn't matter who's on it before you, if this rider for example, crashed... it would've been the drivers fault for not adequately giving way to the right.

For the monies worth, you can't really make it out in the video but they both arrived at the give way markers at the same time. The driver clearly didn't look.

But you can't just barrel across assuming they will stop or give way because you are going 3 times faster.
Who will come off worse - easy question.

Roundabouts work well if treated with caution and courtesy.
They also feature in a lot of accidents.

I may be wrong, but from what I see, the Mini was actually at the roundabout before the bike. The Mini was waiting for the car to pass before entering the roundabout, so the Mini was standstill/stopped.

As the car passed, the Mini decided it was her turn to enter the roundabout, but the moment was just as the bike was entering the roundabout and the bike did not stop, however the Mini had already started entering the roundabout from the initial stopped position so it looked like the Mini was slow.

Not here to judge who is at fault, but I feel for this case, the bike should have slowed down before entering the roundabout and that would have given the Mini, which was already moving into the roundabout, enough time and room to enter and pass through without the biker getting close up to the car.

Easily avoidable.

It's a classic example of putting a roundabout in when it should have been a junction, bike would have been on the main road and the mini would have been joining a major road. People are getting too busy or self-important to slow down now.

Totally agree with this. Some people really don't understand the concept of giving way to the right. As per highway code!

Whatever happens to your left is not your problem. - As i got taught, What happens to right is where you need to pay attention. Unless its a major roundabout where its vital to do lifesaver checks over your left when leaving a roundabout.

Of course, you would avoid potential RTC as much as possible but going back to my point, the car should've gave way as per highway code on roundabouts. She wasn't on the roundabout before the biker, they both arrived at the giveway markers at the same time.

btw @Ironside, this is in your neck of the woods... I usually bypass Salisbury but for some reason it decided to take me through it

Agree, when this happens, to maintain traffic flow both may enter at the same time.
If one vehicle is slower the other might have to slow down.
This happens quite a lot when driving my truck as it can't accelerate as fast as a bike, and once committed stopping halfway out isn't going to be a good idea.
