Cheap Cam/Mic to start with?

Hello all!

I’m planning to start MotoVlogging very soon and have lots of plans of what I want to do with it all.

Only problem is - I’m going to be broke af after getting my bike and don’t want to wait months in order to buy a £200+ GoPro.

I’d like to test the waters with a much cheaper option to see if my channel is feasible to invest in more. Is there any cheap/budget recommendations for us in the UK? Thanks

Welcome :-)

There are plenty of cheap viable options varying from Chinese clones or second hand GoPro cameras. There is lots of info in the forum already, so have a search around and check out some of the other threads.
If you can't find the answers, please start a new topic for any questions you have in the relevant sections :-)

Second hand GoPros work really well. As far as mic options, Purple Panda is not too expensive and easy to place in a helmet.

Here is a "secret" - some of us that publish at 4k resolution really are recording at 1080 or 2.7k. So you do not need the latest GoPro camera to do that. Just get one with built in stabilizing to make it easier for you when comes to editing.

Have you read the 1 star reviews on it? There may be many 5 star reviews, but I bet most of them are from bots.
For the price, it might be worth a punt. You should ask @LimeyRider about his set up as he is using budget friendly cameras I believe.

plenty of GoPro Hero 4 cameras for sale on ebay at reasonable prices:

I'm not sure which version of the 4 allows an external mic, but I know the Session doesn't. Am sure you'll find info on which Hero 4 is best within the threads on this forum by using the search facility.

@MotoWolfUK and @HippoDrone The Hero4 Silver and Hero4 Black both take external mics as long as you have the adapter. Both have the ability to use an external mic (best to go with genuine GoPro adapter but I can test the Purple Panda on if you want since I still own two Silvers)

The silver has a touch/view screen on the back but the black does not but does have higher FPS in higher resolution.

Neither have built in stabilization but that can be handled in post during edit.

Ty Anthony mate :)
No problem. Having some old tech pays off.

Now to get my audio transferred from these wax cylinders.

I found a review of the camera. With a cheaper model you do get what you pay for, but it looks like the most alarming thing is the lack of a tripod tread for attaching the camera to a connecting mount on your bike or helmet.

There are a lot of other cheap cameras, but look for ones with stabilization, and that can record at 1080p 60fps.

Thanks for the input, this one has stabilisation so this might be the shout: https://amzn.eu/d/gauEHoW
