Hi all,

I'm new here, I'm just about to start a project that will involve back to back comparisons of various motorcycles and I was hoping that I could ask for some advice.

Ideally, in my mind i'm thinking that I should have a two mic set up with an action cam, one for ambience and one for speech.

I know that I can either get a separate voice recorder and sync the two during editing or even just voiceover during playback and editing.

What do you guys suggest is best?

I'm in the UK and ideally would like a setup for around £250 if poss

Thanks in advance
Steve

Well it sounds like your best setup would be a action cam with an in-helmet mic for speech and then an external recorder for ambient sound with possibly a noise canceling mic to eliminate wind noise.

I good affordable action cam would be a sony as20 as it records very good video but I would recommend a drift hd ghost (costs a little more) for ease of use and features. I wouldn't recommend any camera that cannot atleast record at 720p60fps at minimum but something in the 1080p60fps range is ideal.

You can split and run dual mono mics on most any action camera with a stereo input. Just use a splitter. That's the simplest was to go about it.

And I'd say to use mic placement for noise reduction. You'll be hard pressed to find a mic that can effectively cut wind noise without cutting frequencies from the primary audio as well.

For mic splitters look at this thread: https://motovlog.com/threads/more-than-one-mic-drift.13004/

You can get a Drift HD Ghost for about £200, possibly less, you can get cheapo miss from eBay for a few pounds, or the Drift mic (list) is £15, so you're well within your budget.

Shop about you can get the Ghost S for £250, maybe a bit less which will do 1080/60.

Should be easy to get going within your budget and have pretty decent kit.

Thanks a lot guys, really appreciate your input. Are there any cameras that will allow the use of the built in mic and an external mic at the same time or am I being ridiculous in thinking that?
