Branching Out

So I had this discussion with one of my friends, who seems to think that since I make youtube videos on my motorcycle I should stick to that and only that.

But just motovlogging is a very limited market and hard to get into. As of now I do motovlogs, started doing some product reviews. and I would like to branch out a bit more into some gaming, movie reviews and just more fun videos to have some good discussion, meet people and you know... grow.

I'm building a new desktop computer so I can actually do better editing and stuff. and starting to get better equipment.

So i'm just curious... branch out? or stick to only motovlogs?

Go for it. If someone I'm subscribed to makes a video of something I'm not interested in, I just don't watch it. I'm not going to unsub them. Sure, you may lose a few subs, but you'll probably gain more than enough to offset the loss. It's your channel to do with as you please.

I spend last night vlogging on a steam train...... my vlog befor that was at a biker bar and the vlog befor that was at a scout camp where i ran round the assault.

as well as this i also do encounter videos, ride videos and will do review videos once i get my studio tidy :P

do what ever videos make you happy and care not what anyone thinks.

I did other types of vlogs before I started motovlogging, so I see nothing wrong there. Motovlogs have a very limited appeal unless you get real popular for some reason. I have several sections of people that watch depending upon what kind of video I happen to be posting.

Do whatever makes you happy.

I branch out to show cool things in Switzerland such as being able to surf in rivers in the city centre for example.

You could make multiple channels doing different things on each, and you could drop that info in your videos for those that are interested to go check out. That's if you want to keep your content organised based on channel.

If you don't feel like going through all that, you can post everything in the same channel and use playlist to organize them I guess. Like what others said, some people might not be interested in the non motorcycle stuff and might drop off as a sub.

If you have too many things going on, let's say for example you decide to post videos on moto, gaming, and jamming (band), and for some reason the videos are not coming at an equal rate, maybe you have more videos for gaming, less on the others, etc. Then those that subbed to see your motor/jamming stuff might just drop off since all they see in the news feed is your gaming stuff.

That's why I think, it's better to separate them into different channels if possible, some might like all three things you're doing (for example) and sub to all three of the channels, no loss.

my channel is named "riding japan" and as of now i follow 3 main themes

- motovlogs
- ride videos (where i don t talk)
- Haikyo, urban exploration

there s also a playlist with walkarounds and testrides

but all of the above have to do with either japan or bikes xD

I'd say that if u do "unrelated" stuff, why not make another channel. you can still advertise ur other stuff. in links, annotations, cards etc. but if someone wants to watch all they can just sub to all.

the same thing is true for doing stuff in other languages and i do have a german channel xD
if u squish all in one channel and expect ppl to just "ignore" the stuff they don t want to watch. It will put people of in the long run.

i would gladly watch some french guys english vlogs. but if 50% of the vids on the channel are french and there are dogwalking vids/crochet vids and motovlogs on the channel, then i d unsub and find something else

I agree with Riding Japan. Branch out and explore what interests you most, but if you want to build a cohesive motovlogging brand or image, it may be best to focus your attention. Maybe motovlogging isn't as engaging as you once found it to be, and thats fine, so this could be an opportunity to focus that attention on gaming or film reviews. I may be alone here, but I'd prefer to be great at one thing rather than mediocre at many!

Do what you want man! I do... I started CarVlogging because I wanted to motovlog. In between I started doing some car reviews, started going to Cars and Coffee and a bunch of other stuff. And now... BOOM... MotoVlogger! Hahaha!
