So if you watch my vids at all you'll know that I've just bought a pair of Sidi Vertigo Evo's (amazing boots btw, check out my unboxing video) but I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a decent pair of leather work boots that someone on this forum may us? I want to get some Kevlar jeans (had a spill in regular jeans and ALWAYS wear my leathers now, even for short rides) but I'd rather wear some decent high top leather boots than my sports boots if I'm wearing the kevlar jeans. Am I making sense or rambling? :P So yeah, thoughts, comments, ideas pl0x :)

I use a pair of cheap frank Thomas boots every day. They only cost £50, new. However I do love you SIDI's very much :)

I use some Alpinestars, the ones everyone wears, got them cheap with my bike, 4 months and they are already falling apart (not like alpinestars i know) i might get some SIDI's

You'd be better off wearing proper boots than leather work boots.

I wear my Alpinestar SMX-5's with kevlar jeans.

I've had my Alpinestar SMX-4 's for over 3 years and they are fantastic. Hardly any wear on them despite riding all year in all conditions. They are properly waterproof and also warm in the winter, cool in the summer with vents. Can't vouch for them in a proper crash (thankfully) but apart from that value for money is awesome.

I should probably clarify a bit: I'd much rather be wearing my Sidis, but if it's a day of (for example) lab work for 10 hours at university, I can't exactly be walking round the laboratory in full two piece leathers all day, hence the want for kevlar jeans and some sturdy work boots.

Have you looked into getting some short boot style motorcycle boots like these http://www.alpinestars.com/shop/categor ... roof-shoe/

They're going to be the best compromise between safety and practicality.

The other alternative is to keep or bring another pair of shoes with you for when you stop. I pretty much always ride with a backpack so I can fit a bunch of stuff in there.

I use second hand army boots, £20 or so, (I bought mine from Miller Tree in Roff Avenue Bedford, water proof and hard wearing), and I can walk miles in them when I'm not on the bike. I wear hiking gaiters in the winter, over the boots and up over my bike leathers. Need another pair now, mine are knackered after 5 years of use.

I do too, but if I'm lugging around a lot of stuff I'd rather not compromise on space in my bag, don't wanna risk ruining my lab books, there's a hell of a lot of research in there haha. I was more just thinking convenience that anything. I think I'll do what Senthx says and use my old boots from my CCF Marine days... forgot about that :P They had about 4 years worth of wearing in and I polished them a disgusting amount so they're as supple as anything.

Case closed!

yeah when ever I don't use my bike boots I just use my military ones, though even when I do have the bike boots on, the army ones are in the topcase, I love em :D

If your after protection and comfort id recommend looking at boots by Magnum. The steel toecap (or composite toe as they class it) is a little hard to feel the gear selector thru but I have a few pair. Their Spider 8.0 Elite I can personally recommend and have had mine for almost 2 years. I sometimes wear them with a pair of Draggin Jeans if I can't be arsed luggin my leathers around. I also west Magnum for work and have them on anywhere for around 12-14 hours a day in all conditions.

They also supply these to the US Marines and retail around £80. Money well spent imo.

Hope this helps?

My instructor told us never wear steel toe capped boots (or similar) as apparently he knew somebody who had a crash in them and the force bent the caps inwards..

however I use a pair of Cheap boots i got off tinternet cost me about 40 quid. I could do with a new pair as these are not waterproof in the slightest. I'll be dry everywhere else but soaked feet!

Alpinestar waterproof SMX boots are great, I just bought a pair of Sidi Adventure gore tex, they are better (more expensive though) as they are a lot stiffer so have more support than the SMXs.

But I've had my SMX boots for nearly 4 years in torrential rain and in scorching Italian sun they've held up great :)
