Anyone who relies solely on a mysterious disk based "intrusion detection" lock is a fool imo.
I run with:
Thatcham approved Chain and padlock, thick cover locked to bike with all locks, thatcham approved disk lock 1, disk lock 2 with the alarm, thatcham approved immobiliser, second alarm locked under seat.
If they get it after that, that's what insurance is for.
Why did I recommend the £8.99 padlock? because as an alarm it does the job. Alerts me to someone screwing with my bike. If it works after 10 seconds I don't care as I'll either be within earshot or I won't be.
If they break it before it sounds, that's what the under seat alarm is for.
ultimately it's just an extra pain in the arse for a petty thief. it's the same reason I park in gear, killswitch engaged and sidestand down despite using a centrestand. I'd turn off a fuel tap if I had one. Gives me a few extra seconds to grab a kn-oif-e and go all crocodile dundee on their asses.
If it's a professional, they'd have it anyway.
P.s. For highly rated locks look at the almax advertising (just youtube captain cropper)... That's how much security thatcham approved stuff actually buys you... May as well spend a tenner and just sit in earshot.

I personally tend to consider bike alarms the same way as pushbike locks - if it's not highly rated, no matter how cheap it is, I won't buy it. No point inducing yourself into a false sense of security, especially considering the horrors you can find in such deals (I once bought a pushbike lock and pulled hard on it - and it broke)
A well-rated disc lock+intrusion detection (it's not really an alarm) comes for about £70, by the way. Imagine how much Aldi probably slacked on the materials.
