Best Time To Upload Videos

Clint Love

It doesn't say CUNT, dammit!
Up until recently, I just uploaded whenever I had a video ready and didn't really think about day or time. I was just curious on when some of you guys like to upload to youtube and whether you've researched what is best for your videos in terms of day/time and potential traffic.

I know there are pros and cons in terms of uploading when YouTube is hopping, opposed to when it's quiet.

Whenever I want, I'm trying to contain myself to two/three a week as I don't want to overload people. If peeps are subbed to you and want to watch you're stuff they'll see it

I usually release a video in the morning, and usually once a week. Sometimes I might trail behind a bit, or release multiple videos in a given weekly period because I have the content to share. But with my busy day schedule I push myself to the limit at times. My day job is demanding, and anyone who runs a YouTube channel knows there is a lot of time spent editing and such.

Try not to immediately publish your videos after it's done uploading. Schedule it out at least an hour so when people watch it, your recorded settings will be ready to go and people won't be stuck watching it at 480 since it's still processing.

I'm kind of the same way. I get up at ass o'clock in the morning and work all day. Sometimes I won't release a video for a few weeks and sometimes I'll blast out like 3 in a row.

Another reason why you want to keep it private until processing has been fully completed: Monitization is not instant. It could take a few hours before it actually goes trough. You will get the most views in the early stages of the video, after that it usually tapers off unless the video is one of the ones that get found by other people (Like my 2005 Mustang review video, but I digress). You are going to miss out on a lot of pennies unless you wait till you have that green $ symbol next to your video! And, if you for some odd reason something goes wrong after the upload / you see a mistake upon reviewing the footage on YouTube you can pull it and no one will be the wiser.

That's a good point. So far my earnings are a total of Zero dollars, so I have nowhere to go but up.

It took quite a while before I received my first pennies from videos I uploaded. But I am not really making anything if I factor the gear I bought to work on my YouTube channel. But that's hobbies, they generally cost more money than they generate. But if that flip flop happens... WHOW!

Yeah, I work a regular job and motovlogging and YouTube videos are a hobby for now. My channel started out as just posting some songs from bands I used to play in. That's why my user name is killersbytrade. lol Then I took up pipe smoking, so I did some vlogs about pipes and tobacco and posted them on pipe forums. I still do that sometimes and when I'm not on the motorcycle, my vlogs usually have me enjoying a smoke and either some coffee or whiskey. I do a few pipe and tobacco-related tutorials, too. Motovlogging is something new for me, but I still want to make good and enjoyable videos. I gotta admit, generating a passive income stream is always attractive to me. I get royalty checks from music and books, not much, but why not videos, too?

Not noticed a time if day makes any difference at all in anything other than the very short term. My Randoms get 200-300 views, often 40 in 24/48h, 100 in a week and the others trickle in, so I don't bother so much on timing bar giving it time to encode before publishing to all.

Didn't know monetisation took its time either.

Yeah the encoding thing was new to me, too. Just recently monetized all my videos. Most had the in stream ads before, but I enabled skippable ads just recently.

I didnt know about the monitization delay. Ill definitely keep my video private for a bit from now on to give it time, just in case.

Use the schedule option and arrange it so that your video is published at the best time zone for where most of your subscribers are located in (check analytics for viewer location), I'm not sure if it really plays a huge part, but it should be the first few videos popping up on your sub's feed depending on when they usually login. Sounds confusing? To make it simple, i.e. "assuming" subs login to YouTube in the mornings at work/home, then try scheduling the video to be published in the morning, so it will be the "latest", thus showing up at the top of the feed.

This is just a theory, not tested nor proven.

Scheduling videos also allows YouTube to scan through your new upload and determine if it passes and approved monetization. I'm not sure about losing income due to videos still pending monetization approval whilst already published, usually it doesn't take long to be approved right after being published, and don't forget it also takes some time to propagate the new upload to your subs' feeds. But if you want to be safe, why not, no harm in scheduling it to be published a bit later.

Personally I don't play with the private/public setting because schedule does the same in terms of allowing the video to be processed and approved.

Sorry for a long post, you may have a potato now.

It makes no real difference for time as Youtube promotes your video for the first 24 hours after you upload it. Any difference in long term views is just a placebo.

Regarding which day, I've found Wednesday-Friday to get much better results.

Yeah, I've been poking around the analytics page and I'm thinking Wednesday or Thursday between 2pm and 6pm may be the best for me. We'll see if that translates to actual engagement or not, though.
