Rom: one-one-six unashamed
It's that time of year, a time when U.S. Parents with special needs gather around the TV and look to see if any of our friends are going to be on tonight or not. For the common man, just like me 5 years ago, it seems stupid. Just a bunch of special needs kids who can't compete at a real level. You, like I was, would be wrong. These kids are so inspiring! These guys are doing things I didn't/couldn't accomplish being non-disabled. They have such a high level of humility and an infectious attitude!
We adopted two little guys from Ukraine, both with Down syndrome. Both completely different in ability and personality. My 7 year old can/has choked out grown men while wrestling and can do inverted 1 handed push ups...amazing strength and muscle control. Our 5 year old will play a 1/2 back on a football team. He has the fast and smash approach and has amazing strength as well.
Watching these events can put a different perspective on life and abilities. I highly recommend watching at least the highlights later this week!
