Anyone have any thoughts on the new EU Copyright legislation under proposal?

This is quite scary, it could ruin social media as we know it including YouTube! Philip DeFranco has put a well thought out video on the subject to highlight it:

It could also have ramifications on forums too, I may be looking too deeply at it, but we are all the owners of our own creations, so sharing links to each others videos across platforms could see us in breach?

it could encourage folk to make their own memes from their own photos, which could be refreshing... or really awful! :D

I was thinking the same thing! I wonder if we need a thread just for posting our recreations of memes on the forum?

It will never work and the reason is because of China.

China pay no attention to anything like this and they have a large amount of money to spend.

You can't even decide on a brexit, there is no chance of this ever going anywhere.

Imagine saying to Google and Facebook we don't want you anymore. They have more money than Europe anyway so would just fight it.

Call me cynical but this is all about protecting money and the rich getting richer.
On a related note, it will cost companies too much to pick on the little man so we will be okay.
However, if you have a larger network/portal, etc, then I think a strong disclaimer on content usage will probably do the trick.

Ah, also, just be careful how you use content that isn't your own - as usual.

Either way, worry not - for now.

The thing is, YouTube isn't a little guy, it is huge and it won't allow the small creators to do anything that could get them in trouble.... I think all of us saw what happened to a wedge of the small creators on YouTube earlier this year, I think we will see another culling that will possibly see the benchmarks for monetization change once again!
