Anyone Else Had This

Has anyone ever rode a bike that they just can’t get enough off but can’t justify buying one? For me it’s been the Royal Enfield Himalayan. Rode different bikes with various add ons. It felt confident inspiring off road in the hands of a rookie and was just a blast on the back roads. Especially on the Welsh back rounds where the lead rider was on an Interceptor and was making progress. Even crawling through London it was happy.

I mean not having the space or spare cash means it couldn’t be hand as a second bike. It also isn’t enough to replace my CB500X.

Taken at Baffle Haus. The second time I rode one.

A completely stock one. Taken at The Bike Shed London on my third ride.

Trade it in on the Himy and do a PCP deal to keep the cost down maybe? :)
Dealers wouldn’t touch it. If it was a “jap” bike then maybe. It also a very rough looker. Still needs a few bits doing. But being so cheap to have it as a spare its why it’s still taxed, mot, insured. Also I wont touch fiancé since I know I would be way over the mileage.

I did like it when i had it for a week.
Offroad nice and stable.

But for me it would be more of a second bike then a mainbike.
And maybe "tune" it a bit, to make it more offroad fun ;)

Money not being (for once) the consideration ... I was tossing up if it was worth going for a Himalayan, a Tenere T7, a KTM790 Adv, or even a Tiger 900 Rally! I just wanted anything that could get down and dirty and be completely reliable. The completely reliable discounted the KTM and (yes really) the Tiger. Too much tech. Too much to go wrong. Too expensive when it does. As for the Royal Enfield ... I would argue it's proper old school fixable if you break it at the side of the road/track, as for the T7, well it's uncomplicated, Japanese and I probably won't be able to break it. The Himalayan is literally half the price of the Yamaha T7 that I've plumped for but there's no way I'll get twice the fun to be fair. That Royal Enfield will plod on and always give anyone a grin regardless.

Still excited about going to see my new Tenere on Thursday though.

Live dangerously Chris, sell the Honda and go a bit old school, get the Himalayan!!! It'll be epic in a different way.

I test road one when i was looking for a first bike for my wife. I thought it was stupid fun and it hauled my fat arse around easily on the road (6'1'. 240). Would have loved to take it out on a fire road or something to see how it ran. Still consider getting one to start ADV riding. But I spend so much time doing long rides that I wrestle with the possibility of making the time to do offroad stuff.

Honestly, i still prefer my old XT660R above the Himalayan.
But considering tech etc, they are almost the same level, but the Himalayan has higher EU norms to deal with.

Got a mate that has the T7, he has done a full custom paint wrap thing to promote his business but it looks awesome and the can fair throw the bike about.

Not everyone's cup of tea, especially the 4 LED spot light style headlight but it grows on you.

Went to sign up for mine today. It’s gonna get custom Rider Guider graphics for sure.
