As the title says this is a user review so I'm not going to go to in depth into the features of this helmet, I just want give a heads up on some of the quirks I have found using it over the last month. The Ax-8 is a very popular helmet from AGV and has been around a few years now, essentially its AGV's motocross helmet with a visor on it now marketed as a "Dual Sport" which from me is where some of these issues arise.
To start with its a great looking aggressive style helmet and is super light weight, this interior of the helmet is good quality and comfortable to wear with fully removable liners making it easy to clean, also making cable routing for headsets and mics easy enough. Its has the standard double D with a snap chin strap so no problems there. The visor looks great especially the smoked one, has a positive lock and seal when closed and stays where you put it when opened at speed. The visor is removable and the helmet can be run with goggles if a lot of off-roading is your thing.
Now for the issues, the helmet fits a little narrow then most so try one on before you buy if you can, if you order online and you have a round head maybe look at one size bigger but I recommend you try one.
The "PEAK" this is the biggest issue for me, first off it looks great on the helmet and is nicely styled however not very well made, its very thin and only fixed to the helmet on either side not in the centre. It vibrates a lot at motorway speeds and is not ideal for road use, it also I have found vibrates at a high frequency when you slow form about 40mph to 30mph almost like a phone vibration on the helmet which is interesting when your eyeballs are losing focus. The Peak is just not great for road use which is a pity because its such an important part of the styling on the helmet however it is removable and you get all the screws and blanks you need with it. AGV also do a naked version which has no peak and may be of interest.
To sum up this is a great looking light weight helmet which is really good quality and price if you compare it to the Arai tour x4 but it feels like AGV just stuck a visor on a motor cross helmet without beefing it up for raod use..This one gets a try before you buy from me. Hope this is of some help to you guys. Oh and the colour scheme in the photo is the Grunge.
