An old friend and I have been trying to get together to ride all season, but schedules haven't lined up. Finally got a bit of a roll in last Sunday! Me on my FJ-09, him on his '02 R1. He's the reason I bought the Yamaha in the first place. He has a ton of bikes, one of them being an FZ-09.

This R1 is a mental case. It's a fully built bike, from the engine to the suspension. Looks very unassuming, but is so much fun to ride for about 30 minutes. Then I'm trashed on any supersport. He actually tours on the thing, and he's older than me. Not sure how he does it!

That said, it was great fun to get out in the backroads and chase some scenery with him.

Back in the 90's I knew a couple of guys that rode sportbikes long distances. One young buck in his 20's said he had to stop every hour due to riding on his bladder and the other stopped every 30 miles due to age creeping up on his bones.

Despite the two guys I knew, touring can be done if they are set up properly.

I used to be that guy. I'm an endurance rider at heart, and it was pretty normal to jump on and do 500 plus miles, as well as chasing Iron Butt rides. I stuck pretty much to Supersports and Hayabusas. Did tons of miles on a ZX10R, CBR954, GSXR1000, etc. Now, my body hates me after 30 minutes on an SS. Hayabusa is still pretty comfortable, at least on the test ride.
