Hi everyone,
Newbe here to the site and to 2 wheels. My first bike is going to be a CPI SUV 125 which are new to UK. Anyway, the dealer said the gearbox is 5 down and up for neutral.
But I'm sure he said that it was a continuous down action, If so, how do you change from like 5 to 4? Or have I completely misunderstood? It is definitely a 5 down and not a reverse 1 up 4 down. I will be going back to the dealer in due course but until then I was just curious as no info on the net.

sounds like a pit bike gear box which means the gears will be arranges like

N
1
2
3
4
5

No 6 gear.... Really easy however bad for practise lol

Changing is the same as normal 1 down 5 up gearbox

Clutch in Down from neutral to 1st clutch out
Clutch in DOWN to 2nd from 1st Clutch out
Clutch in DOWN to 3rd from 2nd Clutch out

And so on so forth.. reverse for back through gears from 5 to 1
All the way up for neutral ..

VEry rare for a road bike to have this type of gearbox however.. clarify with the dealer.

For changing up its simple (misread OP so will explain)

Your in 5th gear
Clutch in Click UP to 4th Clutch out
Clutch in Click UP to 3rd Clutch out

so on

Ah, I get it! Thanks for that! The CPI SUV 125 is a new Retro based on 50's/60's Dirt bikes hence the gearbox. I'm ordering one this weekend for '62' reg. 1st bike. Did my CBT last week, so for a car driver for 27 years...it's all odd LOL. :D

You might find it's fairly easy to flip the shifter over and make the gearbox standard 1 down 5 (or 4) up :)

Everyone has already answered this but he probably meant by this statement ^^ that its not like a car gearbox where you can go from 1st to 4th or 5th to 3rd etc, you have to go through them indivdually! He probably thought you were a proper noob and didnt know

Don't think I can fall in love with a bike if it has gears like that lol

Makes it easier than having to find neutral between 1st and 2nd (which on my bike is a pig!!) or run the risk of hitting neutral when accelerating (which my bike is prone to :S)

When I first had my bike it was a right royal pain in the arse, but a little be of practice and it's easy now, obviously I do hit neutral sometimes
