So I know there are a few of us starting to use 360 cameras in our vlogs and other work. So why not a thread to discuss what we are up to and the problems we face.

Personally I've only just loaned one to see what its like, but after one day of use I clicked the button to buy one.

I have just gone wit the insta360 one - not the X as I'll be down scaling the video to 1080 anyway.

I have to say the quality of the camera is better than I thought but I have had some software issues with it.

1. When moving the 360 files windows explorer chases most of the time.
2. The insta360 software just doesn't function how I would like.
3. Never make a long video with it because working with a 40min long 360 video is just painful.
4. When you want to do a tiny planet video, check the location of your head in relation to the camera.

Feel free to share and discuss anything 360 related.

I love them, not really interested in making 360 videos with mine, I just like the extra perspective it can give and the ability to direct what the viewers look at.
Currently I am without mine though as I've had to send it back as it died.
My main issues with it (when it worked) were more with the editing, the PC software is in beta so unfinished and it doesn't have any of the functions of the phone app. The phone app is hard to edit longer videos too as the small screen doesn't allow for very precise editing, but I am getting more used to it.

Nice thread!

I also have a Insta360 OneX (HippoDrone helped me pull the trigger on that one)

and yes, my main problem is editing, not shooting.

BTY, anyone knows where can I buy a venture case for the OneX?
it's like a unicorn...

It's so hard to find one,
they have it on super limited quantity....if you blink, you miss it.

I've made a post about in the FB group, but got nowhere...
All I ever wanted was to get the Venture Case for my OneX
Is that too much to ask?

Problems:
1. On the Insta360 website, the stock is super limited.
if you blink, you loose....
2. If you somewhat managed to time it perfectly, their prices are ridicules!
for people inside China it's 43$
if you live in the US, it's 49$
and for people like me, I've got to pay 74$!!!
They say it's so high so they cover tax and shipping.
I never asked for FedEx shipping, and you don't have any tax for stuff under 75$ in my country.
3. Let's try AliExpress - 70$:
https://www.aliexpress.com/…/Insta360-ONE-…/32945037675.html
4. Let's try eBay - 80$:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/143032591702

There is no reason this thing should be so painful and expensive!
it's a simple plastic case... and from what I hear, it's not perfect either!

I would really appreciate if someone can help me sort this out...
And if that wasn't enough, I got one person to buy with my affiliate link
and I got about 30$ from it.
then I found out, that I need to wait a full month after the order to use it, ok..
now I found out that in order to use it, I must have at least 45$...
so I can't use it either...
if only I could find one more person who is willing to buy with my affiliate link...

and if the venture case was in stock like the camera is...

I think they have withdrawn the Venture case from sale as it is not as waterproof as they advertised and folks cameras are getting trashed!

I'm really struggling with the software.

What I'm going is editing the basic video on my phone with the app to get the stabilization going, then I'm going to look into what else I can edit with.

I know I can do 360 with After effects and also with Vegas, but I'm yet to try it out.

I do like the way the app works, its just too hard to use on your phone, and the kids iPad doesn't have the power to do it efficiently enough.

I’ve been enjoying my Rylo 360. There’s some limits to the picture quality in low light situations, but I’ve been enjoying the editing software. The real challenge is working with another camera and syncing up the sounds or referencing it when working in it’s native editing program.

I've uploaded my first test of a 360 video.
Insta360 OneX
4K 30 FPS
Log mode with official LUT.
no sound

It's nice and cool, but editing is a PITA.
on a normal video I can watch it at 4-6 times the speed and trim where needed.
here...I have to watch it at normal speed several time, because it's 360... damn.

Am leaving this vid here for now but please can folk follow the rules on sharing videos: they go in the "Members Vlogs" section and if you want to incorporate them in other threads you need to share a link to that thread rather than sharing the video itself.

Sorry about that.
I thought that 360 thread is a call to show tests of 360 footage (like the pictures in this thread).

This is just my test video, it's not published if that's matter.

Nevertheless, duly noted

Guys where I live here in middle Tennessee, as R-Rated knows, you can’t throw a rock without hitting some type of lake river or creek. To go with all them is tons of camp grounds.

Some who have read my other post know I want to do blogs on camping local and further out. Not just camping ( here is what I do... ) I want to pick out locations with great riding areas and also show the CG. This 360 camera would be great for what I’m wanting to do to get someone to have a feel for the location.

Sorry so long winded....I’m seeing some interesting shots but also software or other issues as with anything new on the market when it comes to 360. From when this thread was first started has their been any changes? Anyone finding a better or easier way to edit 360? So many questions I know but I’m excited about doing this and learn more about how you all do things each day. Thx for any tips

With the Insta360 One X I have found their customer service to be terrible, and although they are improving the IOS and Android apps, the beta PC suite is still missing all the features of the app. You can't edit a video on the PC suite, it is useless. Insta360 also owe me money which has taken them over a month to repay and they still have not repaid me fully. They didn't like my review on Amazon and have tried to bribe me to remove it.... not going to happen unless they fix their rubbish customer support and pay me what they owe.
I suggest, if you want a 360 camera that you get the GoPro Fusion, it is expensive, but has had a lot of bugs ironed out already and their app is far more advanced.

Don't get me wrong, I do think the Insta360 One X is currently the best consumer 360 camera available, but the support and software is just not good enough. If they can sort the software onto PC in a way that works well then I will possibly forgive their crap customer service!

on the contrary, I really like my Insta360 so far.

Camera:
IMO the hardware is really good, especially if you factor in bang for buck.
You get great quality, also very nice in low light, stabilization is amazing,
and new capabilities are added on the go (like HDR video).

Accessories:
There is quite a large selection, but it could still be better.
there is next to nothing from a 3 party companies.
the Venture case for example is kept understock for no reason, and a lot of people has reported it leaking.
the backbar price is much lower than other alternatives, but it seems that the reason why is poor quality.

PC software:
it is still called BETA, and yes, it's not perfect.
but I have CyberLink PowerDirector 17 to help my edit
and with the both of them, I don't feel like I'm limited in any way.

Mobile app (Android):
surprisingly, the mobile app has more features than the desktop.
and my personal feel is that the iOS version gets more love than the Android.

Customer service:
So far, everytime I needed something, they helped me.
Yes, it takes time, and yes...it's not easy
but once you find the "right" customer service agent, you are golden.
time and time again they get the job done.
not immediately, but there are getting there.

TL;DR:
Insta360 isn't perfect, not by a longshot.
but IMO when you factor in the price, it's the best we can ask for.

Lupin seems a ton of folks have the same view. Been watching tons of 360 vids and reviews. For the ones that are suited for what we want to do on a bike that list narrows down fast. Work arounds in editing I’m seeing but why all the hoops. I’ve saved some of those vids and subscribed so I can go back depending on what one I get. Guess it’s 6 in one hand and half a dozen in the other when it comes to picking.

The biggest problem I've found with the software has to do with the fact there is no clip splitting when recording.

If the clips were split into 5-10 minute segments then you could easily edit them. At the moment I have a 40+min 360 video that I basically can't do anything with because of the size of it.
