So an 07 Ape SXV550 showed up on Craigslist a few months ago. It was posted 3(?) times for $5500. I LOVED the looks and the specs but the $$ was just too out there for me. Well today the local Triumph dealership had a group dinner ride, as they do every Wednesday. I got there 30minutes early and started poking around the showroom and BAM! 2007 Aprilia SXV550. ""THE"" sxv550.

FATE?!?!?!? Especially since I just decided not to buy a new car and instead maybe look at a new bike?!?!

I was talking to the sales manager and she told me that yes the 2007s had engine problems and this one had it replaced with a 2008 motor.

So does anyone here have one or ridden one or know anything I may not about them? Opinions, reviews, etc are much appreciated guys THANKS! :D

One of my good friends had his for a few weeks. He loved it so much that he rode it all the time. Problem. This bike is a PUREBREAD RACE BIKE. NOT FOR STREET USE. Oil change every 500 miles or less, top end engine rebuild at around 5,000 miles. BE CAREFUL, this bike is a wheelie monster and is one of the most fun bikes I have ever ridden, but in the end it is meant only for racing.

Only buy if you are rich!

I used to like the sxv until I saw this video:

I like my bikes to keep the fire in the combustion chamber :)

The service intervals are worse than that. Top end rebuild every 3400 miles! If you want the full rundown, here's the service interval list:

It's an awesome race bike. An acquaintance in the industry uses one for track days. And that's what it's designed for: track days and weekend hooliganism. It is NOT a daily rider.... unless you have nothing but time and money on your hands.

Here's the guy (link, if you want to comment or see other track photos):

I owned one, great machine, awesome looking.
It really depends what you want and how you are using it.
Service intervals are low but there's separate gearbox and clutch oil so you can use cheaper oils in the main and changes are simple and quick, it uses cheap filters and doesn't hold much oil to start with (hence the change intervals)
The earlier ones had issues with condensation and subsequent cam damage, a guy called Cal in the UK has modded loads of the earlier ones and they have proven reliable.
Its evil and fun, spins up like a two stroke, one of the most unique bikes i've ever ridden.
If you want it for track be prepared to spend lots on shortened swinger, replacement triple clamps, rear shock, exhaust..
This was my beauty.....

Your reinforcing my desire! haha
I have 3 bikes, might get rid of one to get the ape. With my work schedule I probably dont ride the bikes I have enough to justify the variety(I dont commute via bike. LOTS of thiefts where I work. LOTS!), so a the SXV would kinda fit. Weekend Hooliganism!

Lawman: i dont do track days but I hope to some day! I have a ZX6r ninja so It would be a toss up between the SXV and the ZX, depending on which would be cheaper to mod.

Thanks All!

The mods are only necessary for top end stuff, for occasional track days it will be just fine.

Weekend hooligan = supermoto no contest.

Oh and the tank range is about 50 miles...its very small.
