Sena GP10 Question

I did do a search and found nothing totally specific to my question, but I apologize in advance if it has been discussed before.

Here's my situation. As I'm new to motovlogging, I'm still working on my set up and equipment. I'm still not sure yet how I want to run audio, either through the cam only, through an external recorder only, or a combination of both. I have 3 Hero 7's as my primary cams, and I have an older Hero 3+ which I bought the GP10 for. Since I'm fortunate to have the 7's, I don't really need to run the 3+ and would rather leave it home. My question is would the GP10 work if I just ran its micro usb to a 3.5 jack and ran it to a separate audio recorder? I do have the mic adapter for the 7, and could that possibly work as well? In another web search, I'm sure I thought I had found a guy who said he did it this way, but I can't find it again, so maybe it was just wishful thinking! I can always just keep the 3 in a bag and just use it for the audio, but I'd like to limit the amount of gear that I bring on a typical trip. Any thoughts and insight is appreciated!

Thanks for the reply Hippo. I should add that I want to capture the comm from another rider in my group, hence the need for bluetooth capability. For solo motovlog yes I'll run audio solo through a lav mic set up. But in the situations where we're on a group ride, I'd like to get the other guys commentary too. I guess I can just try the set up and I'll have an answer pretty easily one way or another.

One option is to mic the other riders helmet, record to a 2nd recorder they carry and sync everything later. A bit more work but tis often will give you the best quality audio as recording the bluetooth back and forth can be dicey to say the least.

Thanks LoneWolfer, that's a good idea. I hadn't thought of. Would certainly be clearer, but more cumbersome on the post end.....but certainly worth a try.

If it was me working with your kit I'd have one of the 7's mounted to my helmet with the mic adapter. Then use the other 2 7's for various other angles. The 3 and the GP10 I would simply use if I was using a coms units with other people. I'd probably just throw it in a somewhere with power running to it. So not necessary capturing video.

Then I'd line everything up in post and when I spoke I'd trim out that bit from the 3's audio.

Thanks Chrisw959. I guess that was my ultimate question....would the GP10 work as a stand alone. It has to have an out to a recorder as it doesn't record on its own. I will try it out and see what happens.
