Video Length

Just wondering how long you guys think a video should be. I try to keep it between 5 -8 minutes, but I got one for next week that is 11 mins. I'm trying to cut it down, but can't without sacrificing important context.

Do you guys think anything over 10 minutes is too long?
 
I try to keep my videos under 8 minutes, mainly because I don't think people will want to watch me for that long.

With that said, I've watched many 20+ minute videos from other vloggers, especially supermoto/dual sport videos.
 
I agree with both you. If it is a good video time is not that important. However, I don't think I'm that interesting. I don't have a choice for this Friday because I can't cut any more out, but I'll try to keep it under 8.
 
Just post it up, you have nothing to lose, if people watching find it entertaining they'll watch all the way, if not they just skip/scroll it. I don't really keep track of time if I'm recording, and when editing I just leave in whatever I think I should, no regard about the time.

Some people like it short, some like it long, to me as long as you have the content, video length really doesn't matter that much.
 
I often watch 1 - 2 hour long you tube vids, I think as long as its not just you riding around in silence and its interesting go for it!
 
Will do guys. Thanks again. I found that one problem is that I loose my train of thought in videos. It has been said in other threads, but it's hard to vlog and ride. Sometimes it takes me 2 mins to say something that should take 10 secs. I'm sure a I get used to it the time will come down.

thats where editing comes in ;) edit out the blank spaces and the ums and ahs
 
I did:) Still long. Maybe you could give me your thoughts on the vid. I sent you a PM with the link. Any suggestions on how to shorten below 10 mins would be awesome.
 
Unfortunately most people's attention span is under 3 mins. And they usually have to be hooked within the first 30 seconds. But other than that we used to be capped to 10 min videos on YT any way. But 8 mins is a solid self limit.
 
Thanks Downshift83. Maybe i'll put some lights and loud noises in the the first minute:) Like I said I try to keep it between 5-8, but just had some trouble editing down this next vid. I know half of it is probably boring carp, but I need it in there to explain everything. The intro and outro clips take up 3 mins themselves, but It would be wrong to edit down Scarface or George Carlin:)
 
A video is as long as it needs to be. Forcing a set length means you either add filler or cut out great content.

I watch anything from 40 seconds to 12 hours if it is interesting.
 
If you use that new cards feature - it shouldn't matter how long the video is as they have the option to skip to key points in the video =)
