Almost Ready To Start My Channel

I'm thinking of officially starting my channel soon. i have 12 videos to post (rendering lucky 13 atm) and a lot of footage to sift through. at one video per week, that should last about three months.

I've mentioned before that I'm down with a busted ankle and have been since September. I can't put weight on it until January at the earliest. That being said, I obviously won't be riding anytime soon. i wanted to start this channel in September or October, but I was too busy trying to deal with surgeries and doctor visits and etc.

I'm thinking of making a video explaining my ankle and why all my videos are from summer. I'm not sure where it will fit in the lineup, or what it will be about. does this sound like a silly idea? maybe i should wait and see if i run out of footage before going that route.

do you guys have any tips on operating a youtube channel consistently?

What times or days do you guys tend to post vids?

hope everyone is staying safe and having fun!

What does consistent mean? :D

I would say stick a few of your videos up first, maybe half of them, so people get to know you in your intended setting before you show yourself all laid up and explaining gory details about why your foot's busted!

Also, I wouldn't worry too much about posting summer videos in the winter for 2 reasons.

1. It's always summer somewhere!
2. People in the winter, want to watch stuff in the summer to give themselves hope in the cold months!

consistent meaning on a schedule. once a week etc. without dropping out.

i figured i'd put up about two or three videos at first, then one a week. good ideas in that post, sir.

I've always dreamed of being consistent. Problem is that sometimes I simply don't have the time to record/cut a video. And when I do manage to get a few stored up, I get overexcited and post them in quick succession!!

In any case, looking forward to seeing what you've created!

I say, get your gory video out first. That may get views and subs, with people looking for updates as time goes on. People like personal stories.

Go look at my first video compared to my latest.

I made a huge improvement in a month, and getting the first video out there helps get you going so much more than all the preparation on my opinion.

i understand that. i've changed a lot from video one to current. i don't want to start too soon and run out of content. between my leg and winter, i have no idea when i'll ride again. i'm probably going to start early december, just so i have time to fill out my youtube. what days seem to work best for uploads?

i tend to think things trough waay too far.

I don't think a gap in broadcasting is as devastating as you fear. Loads of vloggers I follow have content gaps during their winter period, and I just catch them when they return.

The day you upload doesn't matter either as people will just catch your video when they look at their subscriptions. There was a study done on this and the day had no effect.

You are indeed over thinking it, and just starting it all will help a lot with that. Who knows, people may comment on your video and make you change the way you vlog completely, in which case your buffer was a waste of time.

In summary: I want to see your first video, give it to me! :D

I just go with the flow, I don't recommend setting any expectations. It'll suck out the enjoyment if it's meant to be for fun.

i agree with all of the above comments about scheduling. I've seen no benefits from keeping any regular schedule and I'm up to 60 videos now in 1 year. When I had a bit of a break for work and other shizzle that got in the way, it almost seemed as though the next video got MORE views due to the pause!

But most of all I think any planning that you make with scheduling will be utterly crippled by the way Youtube notifies your subscribers. My GF is a subscriber, and she's had notifications from Youtube that "AndyManCam has posted a new video!" up to 4 days later than the video went live!! And if that's happening to her, I'm sure it's happening to others. So it's almost as though Youtube tries to stagger the initial uptake of a new video.

So just put the videos out when it feels right to do so. As I said before, I just stick 'em out as soon as they're ready.

I started out waiting until a video had 200 views before putting the next one out. But I just got impatient!! Plus some of them STILL haven't reached 200. I'd still be waiting with only 5 videos!!

I think only 2 of my videos have gone above 200, both about the new GoPro.

My last 4 are still sitting under 200. And like you, the last one that has gone over is specifically about cameras! The Drift external battery pack one.

My pride and joy currently is the London tour which is just over 1300 now. Would be nice to imagine that one day those kind of numbers won't take a whole year though!! :D

I'm not too fussed about viewer count, but it is clear that my videos with popular product names in the title do better.

You're videos are great, it won't take long until you're up there :)

I'm C&C btw, my other account is broken :(

Thank you kindly once again dear boy. I always knew it was going to be a slow build kind of affair. Mainly because I stay away from thumbnail trickery and silly titles that are more about sensationalism than whats ACTUALLY happening in the video!!
