My Channel Isn't Taking Off...

So I've been vlogging for a little more than a year now, and I've taken a look over my channel and I can't help but be disappointed in my channel's performance. Now I'm never expecting to be a big name vlogger but at the same time I feel like I should have more channel interest than I do now, and I know there are others who started after me and have similar vlogging styles to me and have been significantly more successful. IDK if I'm just boring or whatever and I don't want to come off as whiny, but the big issue here is that I'm starting to lose motivation to produce more vlogs.

Maybe you guys could help me and see what I can improve on.

Wheelies, boobs and crashing brosef!

Nah j/p. I think it was the brief hiatus your channel had for winter time. Maybe do some reviews/tutorials of stuff (gear, mods, etc) because people are always searching for reviews of stuff before they buy or just really short clips of weird stuff happening on your rides. I mean I just reached one year of motovlogging and I know I am not growing at a stupendous rate but I just throw up videos for the people who usually comment anyways. Just keeping it casual for now.

Wheelies? Eventually.
Boobies? Forever alone :( (that is a future vlog topic, I have some dating horror stories...)
Crashes? I'd like to avoid that.
Short clips of weird stuff: The road rage video took care of that, in fact it's one of my most popular videos...

Definitely think the break for the winter hurt the channel, no question about that. Lucky you in Hawaii can vlog year round. I just got a new Icon jacket which I plan on reviewing and I also have a Kriega R35 backpack that I swear by, those are probably good candidates for gear reviews. Maybe a Facebook page will help as well.

Next video is about my 2 year anniversary of passing my MSF course, maybe that will be a good one since it was a bit of a bizarre weekend.

(FYI a trip to Hawaii may be in my future next year. My roommate has family there and visits every now and then).

Hope his family is on Maui. Oahu is depressing as hell. Well the traffic is anyways. lol

He lives in Kapolei.

Does it really matter if you enjoy making the videos?

That's the thing, I definitely used to enjoy making the videos, right now it seems more like a chore. I mean, I may just be in a temporary lull. I know it happened to ToastToGo and he didn't make videos for a while.

Also I just finished a grad school class which crimped my editing time.

When I started, I was talking talking talking. I thought that was what it was all about. Doesn't help that my monotone Yorkshire accent is so boring I even send myself to sleep. And it's not me - I'm not a big talker in real life.

And the videos were too long aswell.

Now most of my vlogs are just short clips on what's happened while I have been on my bike. If nothing happens, then so be it, but there's always something eventually. I think I'm also getting the hang of not bothering putting in some stuff, or asking myself the question whether something truly is worth putting out there. Still fail at times with that. Some would probably say often.

Then when something else happens - such as the TDF local to me in the last week - that has provided me with something a little different. And the Solar Bear Challenge was great to keep me going through the winter on something different, even though I commute all year round.

My subscribers are great, I really appreciate them still following me, despite most of my videos being on a scooter and that obviously might put off many. But because I'm not looking for the limelight with massive subs, I still really enjoy it and do not feel under pressure to do things out of the ordinary to try and get more

This is the way I look at it. I've been at it a little over a month and subs/views will grow if viewers like what I do. But, like you said, I enjoy making them. Since starting, I've learned a lot about action cams (have both a a Drift and a Go Pro) and I've learned a a LOT about Adobe Premiere Pro. I've also found a bunch of Vloggers who I enjoy watching - that is a big plus as regular TV pretty much sucks. I like learning and doing new things so if I end up with me just talking to myself in my helmet, so be it. I am trying something new and literally enjoying the ride as I go.

Oh hey! My neck of the woods! Just chill around the Ko Olina resort then, the nicest part of Kapolei/Westside even though it is a bit touristy. If you do venture off, avoid the freeways anytime between 6am-8:30am in the mornings and 3pm-7pm in the evenings...it is just depressing.

Yea I've heard about Honolulu's legendary traffic... not like DC is much better.

As for everyone else, yea I think I was just in a lull. Maybe I just need more time. I have a new video coming this afternoon, we'll see how it goes.

I heard a report that the traffic survey for last year was recently completed, and Honolulu took top honors. You can legitimately say that you have the worst traffic jams in the country.

Just had a look at your channel, content looks good, length of vids is good, with obvious longer reviews, which is good also.
You have a channel description, which so many channels overlook - it's essential to show semi-interested people what you are all about.
You're not doing anything "wrong" as such, so here's a few observations I have in generel about vlogging (FWIW) :)
There's no easy formula, but as a performer of 40 years I can tell you that if you aren't enjoying it. people won't enjoy watching. They're gona "pick up what your puttin down" so to speak.
Also - do you actively comment, like and share some other channels of like minded people? For me the biggest aid towards growth has been the engagement with other channels, which creates a networking effect where your subs check each other out.
The last thing is a complete irony - if you don't give a damn about making the numbers grow, they are more likely to grow! (Not saying you are overly concerned about it, but it's irking you a little). Good luck man, and have fun.

CBRHoonigan is right try to have more fun with it and people will come to watch. on the Brightside you get to keep a personal diary you can always go back to see anytime!
...and for your future employer to check out, too, if they know who you are & where to find you ;) .....

There, i just subscribed to you. Make videos because you want to, not for anyone else...
Hoppin' on the gravy train... ditto ;) ... and enjoy the vlogs you make, don't constantly count the numbers. If you do, you'll eventually go mad :( . It's all for fun, man... enjoy it ;) !

Alright, commenting on some other videos probably would help me. I do watch other channels but like many have said there are so many vloggers around these days that it's pretty much impossible to keep up with everyone.

Thanks to both of you and I'll return the favor shortly. It wasn't the intent of this post to drive up my sub count but I feel better now that I've eclipsed 150 subs! Had a great ride with some friends and filmed a vlog today and I come back to discover that my GoPro is broken... :( Now I have to send the camera back, but I suppose that the time without the camera could be used to film a gear review.

i think everyone here want's to have a gazillion subs so do i, but as many said before if you are enjoying what you are doing why would that matter?

Commenting and engaging with other channels sure is important as i see it, but not because if gaining more subs but being 'a part' of a very special community..

subbed!

As someone who has had a fairly successful (but now shutdown) gaming channel I can tell you it's down to several factors that affects the visibility of your channel.

1) Posting regular content at regular intervals - I try to post a video every saturday or sunday night.
2) The tags, title and description of your videos is hugely important - Try to keep the tags relevant and descriptions/title somewhat unique
3) Engage in the community - Like others have said, comment and share and otherwise get involved with other vloggers, maybe if someone likes you enough then they'll hit you up with a shout-out and help boost your channel numbers.
4) Interesting or relevant content - Have a sit and think about what YOU enjoy when watching other vloggers, then try to base your vlogs off of what they do. Some vloggers are raucous and crass (YourPalsChrisAndAl) some are silent road-warriors (RoyalJordanian) and others are informative and educational (RoadCraftNottingham) Try to create your own style and run with it :)

I'm still building my channel up from the ground, it's hard to break into the community of MotoVlogging because almost everyone is doing the same thing, just slightly different (Whereas my old gaming channel had a bit of a unique clique that it appealed to - Namely WoWers trying to learn how to play Balance Druids)

Keep knuckling down and recording when you can, find your style and run with it and hopefully your channel will start to pick up momentum :)

As a last tip, whatever you do, do NOT pay for youtube/google advertising, I can personally guarantee that they will target your ads in the most useless of locations (Put it this way, if you're based in the UK, they'll send Ads for your channel to India, Russia, Mongolia and fuck-knows-where-else) It's a waste of money and you won't gain any real viewers from it.

Hope this helps.
