So...
I had some problems with by pc, we reduced it to a graphic card problem, either age, fan or sagging.
Since the pc was placed on it's side it seems to fix the problem. (can't connect the second monitor now, but that is temporally).

But now Davinci Resolve won't start up.
Keeps hanging on "Loading Fairlight engine".
Did drivers check.
Did command prompt error check.
Tried deleting and reinstalling Davinci, (with the hope that i can reinstate the projects that i was working on.)
Also no success.

Any one had similar problems, and know a possible solution?

Thank :)

I have no experience, but googled the issue and people have had the issue and various solutions. I suggest you read the official black magic forum. Will probably be much quicker way to solve it, compared to hoping someone here has had the exact issue.

I tried most solutions on there with no success.

Might consider downloading an secondary editor for the "off"time, as I do need some editing to get done.

Biggest downside would be losing the projects from the Germany vacation, as that is roughly 3 moths worth of editing

Try checking the logs, search for any messages including ‘err’ or ‘error’ for example.

Info stolen from Blackmagic forum:
In a File Explorer window, go to:

C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve

and run CaptureLogs

This will place a Resolve log file named similar to this on your Windows desktop: DaVinci-Resolve-logs-20181228_140434.zip (You may not see the .zip extension if your system is set to hide known extensions).

Many people also report solving similar issue by disabling additional graphics devices in Device Manager, have your tried that yet?

So, this is what I got (and thank you for the better explanation then I could find on the forums.

Will try and check out the Virtual Display Device when i'm back.

You could also try installing newer or older versions, in parallel, for the effort of rescuing the projects.

So.... It has been a while, many different reasons.

But I heard rumours of a Davinci Resolve update that might fix the problem I'm having.
Anyone out here that is testing the Beta by any chance?
Any idea on improvements etc?

I am still on 17, but I've heard that the 18 Beta is very good.

As for DR not starting up, I assume you've rebooted and tried again? On Windows, DR likes to terminate but stay resident, so it's still got a background process running, which needs to be killed before you can restart the program.

Pc have been restarted multiple times.
DR has been removed and reinstalled 2 or 3 times.
Disabled the videocard.
Done some other tricks i found online.

Haven't touched DR for a solid 6 weeks (or more) by now to be honest. ;)
Kinda gave up on trying

Well, then I'd try uninstalling 17 and downloading 18, see if that fixes it.

I am assuming your computer meets the minimum requirements for DR?

Yes it does (or atleast for 17 it did)
It worked fine the first year, until the pc had some crashing errors due to sagging.

What's sagging?

If it used to work and doesn't, I would suspect a faulty driver, files that can't be written to or read properly, or a system configuration issue [Windows Registry, for instance].

GPU sagging is an annoying thing that happens when your GPU becomes too heavy for the PCIe bracket and slot to hold, which then causes a sag towards the back end of the GPU where there usually isn’t any support.
Which in allot of cases doesn't have to give a problem, but for some reason did in my case.

Now my pc-case is laying on it's side, and it is working faultless again.
But some of the other solutions we tried before that f-ed with settings and after that DR didn't start up anymore ;)

Huh, didn't even know 18 was out already. Seeing how it's still beta though I think I'll stick with 17 for now.

I reached out to a couple of DR experts / YouTubers I know, and they both said that DR18 Beta was very good & stable... but I too, am waiting for it to get out of Beta.
