We are from Utah, in the United States, the G is for Gdawg (DSH) and D is for Deb, me.
We ride a 2007 Suzuki Bandit 1250S.

I am a 100% disabled Veteran and my husband is an amazing caregiver helping me navigate this "still abled" world around me. I like high speed, freedom of the road and cherishing life at every corner.

We are here because well. Writhing in pain, working on physical therapy, speech and everything else that comes from being "differently abled" in this world can be rough. We ride every week. Its called I can live, free of the "can no longer do's" and am totally abled while riding those miles on the back of my husbands bike.

If anyone out there "laid down" their bike so to speak and is having difficulty standing back up, I want to film and ride and show....just get back out there, ride. Ride like you didn't get blown up. Ride like nothing held you down and ride like nothing will hold you down again.

We are trying to figure out how to film our rides, how to make videos, what gear you really need and how to do it with both the passenger and driver in perspective.

Neither of us have any experience doing anything but miles on the bike.

The information out there is plenty.

We are here to learn.

Mods will need to happen on the Suzuki Bandit of our. We tend to stay in hotels over night and I would like a set up that is good for a couple who leave for the week, packed in only a tank bag.

Fewest cords, most interchangeable and least likely to "arrive at the hotel" without half the correct cords to charge.

Hi @GandD welcome to the forum Deb. Well done on not letting your disability get in the way of you riding, I imagine you have to do some serious modifications to a bike to make that work, I think that could make a really interesting topic for a video.
It sounds like your husband Gdawg is one in a million, that is really awesome

A 1250S is a great bike for getting your go fast fix, those bikes up and move!

Welcome. As far as fewest and correct cords for a trip - Gopro's of late and their battery chargers have USB-C as do later model Android phones so you could get by with one cord for the phone and one for the charger. Using a USB station that plugs into the wall and adjusts the juice for whatever is plugged into it would cut down the power adapters. A couple of extra batteries and recording at lower resolution and frame rate should do nicely for a day in the saddle. If you have a way to charge on the bike - even better.

Traveling and recording can be challenging but rewarding even if the footage is like your own personal photo/video album.

Sorry to hear about the service connected disability but glad you are pushing through and enjoying life on two wheels.

We were looking into GP9. After reading about bit rates and crossing my eyes till I was dizzy regarding...codex? Abcdefg1 and all that. Maybe better off with GP7 or GP8? Whats the general consensus?

Have both Ipad, droid and droid phones.

Not concerned with sound as we mainly want a simple interface, few words, LONG RIDES, played in fast forward of course

Battery, LONG RIDES, how much juice should really be carried?
Memory, what size, how many? Long rides

Don't have any interest in live stream.

Good video editor for someone button and techno shy, where is that big button that does it all point and play style and as/if become better editor and stuff, can learn pushing those nauseating codex and bit and 0100 stuff 11 00 111

We aren't new to bikes. Just intimidated by all the options for trying to add action cam to the casual shoots through the canyons.

Filmora Wondershare 9 is one of the simplest editors out there but still has most features you'd want. It is what I use to edit with on my PC.

As for cameras, it is a minefield (excuse the pun), the GoPro Hero 9 is a fantastic camera, and has a really good (for GoPro) battery life. It is however a new camera, and they are still ironing out the bugs. The Hero 8 is also a fantastic camera, just with slightly less battery life.

I have both, and use the 8 as my main camera as it is more reliable currently, I may switch to the9 once they sort the gremlins.

Unless you run an external microphone, the audio will not be very good from any camera, wind noise is not nice to listen to. So you may want to look into that because with GoPro, you need a special audio adaptor to be able to plug in a mic, or the Media Mod.

For long rides, get a few 128Gb memory cards, at 1080 they can hold a decent amount of footage, but if you record at 2.7k or 4k you will get through them a lot faster. You'll want some spare batteries too.

I'd suggest you helmet mount the cameras, it is more engaging for the viewer, some helmets are easier to do so than others.

Inspiring story and one I'm excited to follow. For now I just use a GoPro Hero 8 Black with media Mod (I'm told the ulanzi battery door with the old go pro mod is better) and a cheap ebay Lavalier microphone. I edit using Adobe Premiere pro because I have a slow laptop and it has good acceleration that means editing works on the old hardware I have. I hear Filmora Wondershare/Divinci Resolve are good also and free! I'm no expert just sharing my setup if that helps.

Another thing that has taken me a while to suss out is mounting cameras to my helmet. I've tried all sorts of mounts but my new Ride Tech mount is great. It is custom profiled to my helmet (SHOEI NXR) and they cater for quite a few different brand/models (Shoei, Arai, AGV etc).

You guys have so much wonderful advice!

I will be writing notes as we drive to the sunshine this weekend in the caged vehicle.

BIG QUESTION:

We have the 1250 S, so yes we do some "different" types of rides.

Couple this with the fact that from a roads, "routes" kind of thing. We live in this amazing area. While it would be a stretch on the butt, we could do a FIVE hour ride that begins at

Bonneville Speedway, the salt flats.....if you have never been there at dawn...you should put it on your list. Plus, we all know the history made out there on Bonneville and those salt flats.

From here a long boring jont for a bit across I-80 we can tour 10 world class ski resorts, 8 lakes and beautiful country. If you had to do it in a single day, you could do it in 5 hours.

But, there are some amazing curves and side roads. Those are where that husband of mine grinds down his chicken strips. Those darn chicken strips. I hate every time we put on a new set of tires. Its all about "making the tires REAL" he says.

For those moments. I have been digesting your forums and I REALLY want to be able to film those back road curves, from the bikes perspective, not the passenger.

Yeah, they are those kinds of curves where every rider could care less what you are doing and would like the perspective of the bike.

I have read GO PRO, screen protectors, over heating cases.....where do you mount and what kind of camera would work best for those curves and the stupid rocks that blow a whole set?

Yes, I realize this might mean carrying a 3rd camera and have a place (but where) to mount the camera to catch THOSE curves and those back roads?

We have also been trying various apps for the motorcycle path.

The current app we are trying out (and losing data due to ---oh you have to do that--- moments.

We haven't really found one that totally "nails" it from a moto vlogging point yet.

Like I have said before, a helmet mounted camera is far more engaging than a bike mounted camera. So that is what I'd suggest. Sure a second camera mounted on the bike is an awesome idea to add an extra perspective.
It is possibly worth you watching a selection of motovlogs and see what camera angles you like the best and go with that. Itchy Boots is a great travel motovlogger, may be worth you taking a look at her channel. But all of us on here do different setups, you may find a viewpoint you like from the members on here too

For trackdays, where corners are the whole point, and we are also not allowed in the UK to helmet mount cameras, I mount a camera on my triple tree to show the clocks and bars and the view ahead. With a 360 camera, or the GoPro Hero 9 fitted with the Max Lens Mod, you can get some great shots carving through the corners.

Watched some Itchy Boots, Bunny Hog and Hippo and wow. So many things like camera angles and picking shots. Huge learning curve coming our way.

Love that there is an even larger mine field for mounts and mount applications, 360s and everything else. To be honest, feeling like cannon fodder. Watching various moto vlogs out there, you get lost in the bikes .

Wasn't able to subscribe, the machine being used is the "public wifi" laptop. You know, the one that never logs into accounts...haha. We will be subscribing to a bunch of you and dishing out likes when we get back to our secure network and non-traveling machine.

Which brings up another thought, external harddrive.

We are for sure going to get one GP9 and one GP8 until the bugs are ironed out with the 9, mounts I am sure will be an evolving thing.

Moto app...aka trip tracking, mapping and stuff will take some work.

Whew, talk about brain overload and well, quite certain we have all experienced that moment in something when the "options" cause your brain to just sort of, mush. That moment when all the information that came in, someone shook the thought patterns like a snow globe and if new information is being imparted......oh look, another pretty piece of glitter....nothing is getting in after that point....and you can't find the exit yourself.

This is a bad moment to enter the debit card. GO IN WITH A BUDGET, keep that budget and in that moment,....oh look, pretty glitter....

A fun bag of all kinds of attachments. It was $100 but they claim to give you a random amount of various contraptions for attachments to exceed a value of $300. They had 4.5 stars in Amazon and over 800 rates on this item.

In the "pretty glitter" moment we figured, we don't know what we will prefer, we know what others say works for them in their set up, but our set up is not quite that "normal"...........ever. So in that glitter moment we added that "value bag" of what ever was left at the end of the season in the shop. We may or may not like any of it, we might love something, it might work for us.

2 power ports on the bike, working with other bike owners of this bike are there are its own set of modification disasters due to its year and well, the Bandit 1250S just never really made it and Suzuki worked really hard on it. Not every loves her like we do. After long rides swallowing my ankles and knees I frequently ask myself the same question.

Then we hit a nice set of curves in our wonderful corner of the Rocky Mountains. Something like the Seven Sisters up Little Cottonwood Canyon. Its moments like this you realize what that Bandit was designed to do. She will get you there and you will cross those miles in just as much comfort as she can give. But when you face Seven Sisters, she asks you take a proper seat and get out of her way. Those curves are the cherry on top of the miles she endured to get you to this point.

She will give you the ride of your life.

For the first time, we will have to pack more than the tank bag, so we added one more bag...those GP batteries.

Today's update, still waiting on tracking information from shipments.

We decided to order our camera gear straight from GP website, paid the extra $50 for the "club" pricing as well as to try out their 4 apps they put out.

I noticed one uses with it adobe filters and such.

With no knowledge on video or editing or anything else. The goal is to totally dive in using what is offered and starting there. Not that this is perfect, but when you have no working knowledge, its nice to consider a one stop shop.

We can't wait to get out there and try everything out.

If you want to do something, we suggest; just get out there and DO IT.

Hi Deb, welcome to the forum! You got some good advice from Hippo and others in here and I'm not sure what advice I could offer on top of that. So I'll just offer a thought about starting out: you'll learn a LOT as you make more motovlogs. Its an ongoing process but it's also extremely fun and very rewarding IMHO, so keep with it no matter how frustrated you might get at times early on.
