Gf's Hands Are Short #pillionissues

The guy who rides in red
So I'm wondering what I can do with the situation. My GF is a little on the short side. I'm riding a small CC bike so the tank isn't tight to my crotch. When she wraps her hands around me she can't reach the tank and hold on to it. Thus she hugs me instead of reaching the tank. This results in her pushing me forward when I'm braking and I can't blip the throttle and downshift when I want to.

Any good advice on how to defy this issue? Any general advice on how to ride with a pillion? (I've only ridden with her a few times)

Ride smoother is the main tip for a happy pillion. You can also get "love handles" which you strap around your waist and she can then hold onto them, will still be pushing on you but it will be a bit more controlled. She will probs be quite nervous on the back if she hasn't done it much before so break her in gently, don't go too fast for her comfort zone while she acclimatised to the speed bikes can go, remember 30mph on a bike will feel like 60mph to someone who hasn't any experience with it.

Hey man, thanks for the info. I've been really careful with her yeah. I've only ridden 1-2km on an empty parking lot with her and haven't gone faster than 30kmph. She loved the whole thing. The only actual issue was that if I break, she just slides on my back which causes me to lose any control of my arms (she pushes me which pushes me against the handles).

My bike has a back handle/metal grip. Idk if it'd be a good idea to ask her to hold onto that?

She might be able to use one hand on your back and her other on the handle behind her to spread the force between the 2, a carpark is not the easiest place to learn to be pillion though, get her out on the road away from traffic and see how she is when she can possibly predict direction changes easier by following the road. Once she understands how her body reacts to the change between acceleration and braking she will be able to counter it smoother and will probably learn to put minimal pressure on you by utilising the handle etc

Good point definitely. I'll keep that in mind for the next meet up.

..... or get her to pass her test and get her own bike! ;-) :D

This is the plan in a few years. She's busy with her classical music studies lol

Must not crack a joke about a GF with small hands.....

However, get her to use her core better. Experienced pillions tend to lightly hold the leathers or waist, one I know never holds on
aahahah I didn't realize I wrote short hands not arms. She's just a little on the short side all togther, it's not like she got short hands but enormous legs ahaha.

I guess we gotta experiment a little more (on bike and off too if you know what i mean ;) )

If you don't want her going forwards and crushing your man parts with the tank, tell her to use her knees and squeeze against your hips, this gives her more leverage to avoid from going forwards when you slow down/brake.

My daughter is 9 and has very short arms, as well. She can't reach around me (doesn't help that I'm a rotund individual) so she holds onto the adjustment straps on the sides of my Tourmaster jacket. Does your jacket have anything like that?

it's taking every ounce of the polite manners my mother taught me to not make a joke here...

Sorry about the double post, but it didn't seem right to (almost) make this joke in a post where I also mentioned my child.

ahahaha I see where you're coming from. Sometimes things are a little to weird even to be mentioned next to each other xD

Deleted the last couple of posts on request.

Can we all remember that not everyone wants to talk about a 'reach a round'

Let's get back to girlfriends with small hands
