3M Scotch Permanent Outdoor Mounting Tape. I'm going to add a tether too though, but even that is attached with 3M VHB Tape.

I use that same stuff to re-use GoPro mounts when I take them off, looks very similar to the OEM tape but a little thinner

The thickness of the OEM tape is important to get a good contact with the helmet.

Not sure what that has to do with velcro style tape though. :p

Thinner strips can be layered to suit contoured surfaces like that on helmets. I was just pointing out an alternative to velcro. :p

How to you easily remove the camera multiple times with that tape though? That was more my point, it's just a bit more permanent than velcro :p

I take it out of the waterproof case? The case remains on the helmet. o_O

the stuff malJohann is thinner than OEM but works perfectly fine, had it on my GF's car at...highway speeds didn't wiggle...although i still leashed it :D

The main use for velcro-like tape is to chin mount GoPro's without using the mounts as far as I can see.
