Played with some Mic'ing of exhaust end engine on my cage. Came out decent, used the ATr 3350 and lots of wind blocking...Now the next car will be a non powered mic with a home made dead cat style wind blocking

This is one thing that I've tried to play with on my scorpion can!

I can't get it right to be honest so may grab this mic

The zoom H2N or similar mic, wrapped in a sock and placed in the inside chest pocket of a bike jacket gets great audio of the engine and exhaust.

I'm not quite there yet to getting into separate audio recorder...

Do you have any clips with the Zoom?

In the same time? How? Do you have nice audio with this combination?

since i don't talk in my videos, this is pretty much the only one to get an idea how it sounds like ( the first 2 min or so ) And yes both mic's are connected with a splitter, it took a lot of tweaking though to find the right spot and setup of the mic's

Interesting. I had heard there were issues with impedance using 2 mics on a splitter which can result in strange peaks and sounds in the audio.

actually, it was a bit tricky. I made my own splitter cable after the splitter's i tried before worked but always would give you some odd noises, other than that and the normal 10+K high pitch sound from the drift, i dont have any issues.

Like i said, it did take a while to figure out the right spot for the second mic in my pocked and the right amount of padding around it as well.

I'm experimenting at the moment with an external Stereo sound recorder running alongside my in-helmet mic from the Drift. Worked really well on the seat behind me and gives the ability to lower ambient noise when I'm saying something (which is obviously vitally important). Also means traffic and background stuff has the effect of actually going past the viewer.

However, having a £150 sound recorder bungeed to the seat looks crap, and with the slightest hint of rain it'll be ruined. Plus at anything over 50mph its all wind roar (Which RJ never seems to get). So I've bought an external stereo lav mic ( http://www.ebay.de/itm/171413651041?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT )

which I'm going to try mounting INSIDE the foam of the seat. Out of the way, waterproof, and the seat does the wind protecting! Also would allow me to power the recorder from the bikes electrics.

That's what I do Andy, have you tried putting it in your jacket pocket?

I did try that. But the pockets are quite large so it shuffles around in there a lot, giving a noise like that time your GF called you from inside her handbag...

Plus I don't really like having chunky stuff in my pockets. A friend came off recently and had a perfectly formed (and extremely tender) blue/orange/purple imprint of his iPhone on his chest for a month!

PLUS plus, the sound is pretty muffled anyway. thick leather jacket.

PLUS plus plus, the battery hatch is dicky so it pops off at will, killing the recording. Under the seat means it can be 'mains' powered.

Haha, fair enough.

Make sure you add lots of sound isolation in the boot though. That sounds like a clipping nightmare having a mic in there.
