He's been fixed, probably why he's biting you...

I think he is used to play that way, it doesn't look angry, disturbed or wanting to attack.
My cat approaches from the back where you can't see her and bites your legs but because I taught her to do it. It looked cute at first.
The owner reaction though, is questionable. You cannot blow or hit him in the face. You're supposed to grab it from the neck and put it away.
I taught my cat about a "safe zone", she knows that when she's in that spot you cannot touch it. It makes solving problems when she misbehaves way easier than hitting, blowing or spraying her with water, it is less stressing for both. She misbehaves and I go crazy screaming and running behind her until she runs and sits at the safe spot. Done, she knows that she did something wrong and I don't have to correct in a cruel way.

Do cats really need to be trained. All mine have been so chilled, just don't piss em off. They are animals at the end of the day

I saw in my life so many misbehaving cats, they are used to steal food as soon as you look away, they f-up the furniture, they make a mess in the house.
I wanted a cat but nothing of that so I trained mine. It has about 10 years now, she never climbed up the table or stole food.
Cats are very primitive, if they are trained and shown who's boss since they´re born, they will be good pets. If they sense lack of attention, they'll go away and make their own lives coming back to you only to get food.

I also like training my pets, it is my way of connecting with them.

My cats have always behaved the same with no training.

I find if you give a cat what he needs, scheduled feeding, toys, scratching post, bed. And you give him those things since day 1, they will always use them. Its trying to implement new toys and objects when they are older.

I also sometimes took the bell off my cat and let him hunt birds and mice. Only once in a while, and he would rarely catch a mouse .

My cats have always behaved the same with no training.
I know right, dogs on the other hand, you can't train them enough
